The first month of HON has been busy, but hopefully enjoyable for all members! It’s always great to see the new students on campus become active in the Honors community and terrific to see new faces. I hope everyone will find HON to be a beneficial experience and terrific opportunity to meet new people and get involved on and off campus. The community service chairs have been active in planning great events to get students involved. It is a privilege to go to school in an area that is so supportive of Texas Tech, and therefore a joy to be able to give back to it. Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House was very successful and we will get the opportunity to continue with our work there this semester. The Race for the Cure was also a fantastic event with tons of involvement from our members. HON was able to make a large donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and express our support for cancer patients. Our first Pizza with a Prof has also taken place with Ambassador Tibor P. Nagy Jr. as he discussed “The Obama Administration’s Greatest Challenges Abroad.” My favorite aspects about Pizza with a Prof have always been its ability to provide pragmatic first hand knowledge to students from individuals who have a vast amount of knowledge about the subject. It goes beyond what you could ever read in a textbook, and typically hear in class lectures, because these professors have had experiences that most people simply hear about. Yesterday Dr. Robert Paine shared his insight about forensics sciences and opened our eyes to the field beyond CSI and primetime TV. It’s a terrific event to attend every month as it expands your worldview through interactions with our brilliant faculty. Socially we had an HON movie night at Tinseltown and free Sheridan’s. If you’ve been in college this long and don’t know the appeal of free food you sure will soon! I hope all of you have a great semester thus far, and I hope to see you around often and soon!

P.S. Be sure to attend Capture the Flag planned by our social chair Anastasia tomorrow!!

Capture the Flag

Hey HONies,

October 17th Capture the flag meet at Gorden Kitchen at 6:00 pm. Bring your cutest mugs for hot cocoa.

When I was running for social last year, I promised everyone that we are going to have REAL food, no more pizza and what not. After a mini survey...............I went to purchase needs for tomorrow.
Some details on the event:

We will meet in Gorden first floor kitchen and devour the granola bars and chocolate to charge up. I was going to list exactly what we have but you can scrutinize the pictures below=). After the game we will head back to the kitchen and have home made hot cocoa! We will NOT provide cups. ( you can't microwave plastic cups and foam cups are SUPER bad for the environment) Bring your cutest mugs!! Whoever has the cutest mug will get a little prize.

For the hot cocoa, personally I have always been having package kinds. Welllll......tomorrow we are going to make our own! It is basically cocoa power, vanilla extract, milk, suger( We have zero calorie sugar!), and marshmallows. There are baby ones to add in the milk and big ones to devour directly. Have you tried microwaved marshmallow? SUPER delicious! yummmmmmm There is coffee as well. I started drinking coffee approx. two months ago, and I have discovered that drinking coffee and having banana with it is really grand!!!! As you can see in the picture there is also bananas. I am not sure if it will go well with hot cocoa, but we will find out tomorrow.

If you do not attend, that is minus a point!! jUST KIDDING, but be there! If you haven't paid please bring the member fee, it is 40 dollars and you get a shirt.

One last thing! Dear HONies, you can join a committee and be a part of that committee! Want to join Social? You get to organize events and we have a Halloween party coming up. Plus, you can work with me in person! That's priceless okay? Haha...yeah....ANYWAY! I want YOUR help and YOUR ideas. The best of all, your can now put you are in the "Social committee of HON" instead of "member of HON" in your resume. Email me at: anastasia.warden@ttu.edu

Good night Honies! Study hard!
